"Shady Display" is a typeface designed for my BA project "Readability and the Art of Reading in Queer Contexts".
It was designed in the same slanted angle as Flawed Galliard (unreleased, but also for the same project), but works as its counter part both in form and readability. Not only does it exclusively contain capital letters, it also is far less organic and rounded and its shapes embody qualities such as harshness and aggression. It is sharp and decorative — yet based on a simple, modular structure, whose logic every now and then is interrupted by bold details like triangular additions to the stems (seen on A, D or K) that give the letterforms stability. It also functions as a display typeface. Each of its letterforms present within its structural DNA as quite standalone shapes and connect to each other in a sometimes experimental manner. Where Flawed Galliard's letters merge scripturally, Shady Display doesn't aim to create flow in favor of readability. It is therefore a bit encoded and forces the reader to observe it closely.
